DEVOCION (WILLIAMSBURG)

Sun-lit coffee haven with lots of plants, and some of, if not, *the* freshest coffee in New York (it’s all roasted in Brooklyn after arriving direct from Columbia). I always buy the Botica de Café beans to brew at home.

Café Integral

The sell for Integral in my opinion, are the housemade non-dairy milks, which I find are somewhat of a novelty in New York. They include organic almond, coconut, and horchata — The almond and horchata are both sweetened with dates which is an obvious plus for me. The price tag shows it, but it makes for a delicious, creamy cappuccino. They close at 4pm which is probably for the best.

Upstate Stock

Upstate Stock represents a place that my dreams are made of — they've got coffee and my favorite vegan cookies (tahini chocolate chip and peanut butter), AND have an entire specialty grocery situation going on. On the cusp of Greenpoint, it's also a nice walk out of the Bedford rush.

Cafe Lyria

I am obsessed with the “Lyria” which is essentially a shaken iced cappuccino with oat milk and honey. So good.

Librae Bakery

Amazing bakery and coffee in the East Village. Librae describes itself as a Middle Eastern Bakery with fermentation technique from Copenhagen…so I don't think I really need to sell it anymore than that. The sourdough bread is an A+.

Restaurants
PLANTA

As you might know from my Instagram, I absolutely adore PLANTA. I always respect when a restaurant opts for using just plants and real food to create vegan novelties — and with PLANTA you won't find an impossible in sight. You can go to PLANTA QUEEN in Nomad, which is more of an asian-inspired men, or PLANTA in Williamsburg, Brooklyn - which has well, truly everything, from pizza to burgers to pasta to vegan sushi (the ahi is made out of watermelon)!

DOUBLE ZERO

I consistently crave pizza probably because it's one of the few things I don't really make that often at home. Double Zero is an all plant-based restaurant specializing in vegan pizza with some other Italian comfort staples (made vegan) as well. They do gluten-free crusts too, so everyone at your table can be happy!

DIRT CANDY

Dirt Candy has a Michelin Star and only serves vegetables. That's something I can get behind — inventive, unique, eyebrow raising…all the ways I'd use to describe the food at Dirt Candy. You get one set tasting menu, so definitely be prepared to eat! This was a fun and creative dining experience and I can't wait to go back again.

LORE

My meal at LORE was one of the most interesting I've had as of late. From Mangalore, the chef adapts the concept of local food and applies it to Indian-influenced dishes; all of the ones I ordered were incredibly different and absolutely delicious. I definitely wouldn't miss the delicata squash if it's on the menu, as well as the fermented dosa.

AHIMSA

I'm not exactly trekking to Murray Hill for fun on any particular occasion, but I will bring my passport out to go to Ahimsa. When I'm craving traditional South Indian vegetarian food (and especially a paper dosa) this is the spot I frequent. Everything is consistent, completely vegetarian, and one of the healthier Indian restaurants I've tried in New York. If you're worried about dietary restrictions, there are tons of vegan and gluten-free options too!

angel

A trip to Jackson Heights for me may include the Indian grocery shopping excursion of my dreams, but it also cannot be complete without a trip to Angel. The second you get to JH, put your name down for a table and then go about your shopping, or mithai hunting. Angel specializes in vegetarian North Indian fare — don't miss the baingan bharta and the chole, both standouts.

Eleven madison park

For a celebration or when you just need a really nice dinner out (and by nice, I mean literally 3 Michelin Stars so get ready, lol), I love going to EMP. When Chef converted the entire menu to a plant-based one, I was taken aback in the best way and thrilled - especially as someone who has been developing plant-based recipes for a decade. There is SO much possibility when it comes to working with plants, and Eleven Madison Park is an example of disrupting the norm when it comes to fine dining.

EYVAL

My first time eating Persian food was at Eyval! Everything was well-prepared, flavorful, and there were tons of vegetarian options to enjoy. I also loved the ambiance of the spot, which is perfect for a date night or a dinner with your close friends. Don't miss the Barbari Bread if you want to eat a cloud (hint: you do).

THAI DINER

I definitely would not expect to get a table at Thai Diner the minute you saunter up to the host stand, in fact I'd expect a preeeetty long wait. But when you do put your name down, walk around Nolita, and finally get a table, you can expect some truly delicious Thai comfort food with a dimly lit, very New York, ambiance to match.

JUNOON

I've always been impressed with the depth and breadth of Junoon's menu - at this Michelin starred Indian restaurant, you can find your classic yellow dal tadka as easily as you can find an eggplant chaat, and a mushroom & truffle khichdi (one of my favorites). I love the chef's take on Indian staples, with tons of vegetarian and vegan options to boot (because we love options, and we love them for everyone)!

Semma

This is the best dosa you will eat in New York. Full stop. I am SO impressed with Semma — it's nearly impossible to find such an representative and authentic approach to regional South Indian food, but chef Vijay Kumar gets it so right. You will definitely need to scout for a reservation or, wait in line at 5pm for your chance at a full-service bar seat!

ABCV

My absolute go-to for a nice veggie night out. It's the perfect place to bring both your vegetarian and non-vegetarian friends — you won't find an ounce of fake meat or processed vegan food on the menu and everything is sourced fresh, locally, and organic when possible.  I don't leave without getting the whole roasted cauliflower, beluga lentils, and green hummus.

Website

Everything I ate at Sofreh was simple, flavorful, and delicious. I always feel more at home with a family style menu, where everyone can dip into all different types of dishes, all together. My favorites were the eggplant dip, roasted cauliflower, and of course, how could you forget the bread?

Rolo's
Website

853 Onderdonk Ave, Queens, NY 11385, USA

I LOVE this spot. The vibes, perfect. The food, delicious. It's a great date spot if you're looking for that, but mostly one of my only (and favorite) reasons to go to Ridgewood. Rolo's is a neighborhood bar and grill that focuses on wood fire cooking. Do not miss the tahini chickpeas (my dream dish) and the absolutely divine wood-fired polenta bread.

DIVYA'S KITCHEN
Website

25 1st Ave,, New York, NY 10003, USA

If I'm feeling like I need a little health in my life, I go to Divya's. At Divya's you'll find healing vegetarian and vegan dishes inspired by Ayurvedic practices, with each item explaining which doshas the dish is optimized for. I love ordering the kitchari, and the vegan lasagna.

MITR THAI
Website

37 W 46th St., New York, NY 10036, USA

I know this dilemma all too well. You have plans to see a Broadway show. You need to eat dinner, probably around 5ish, but somewhere close to the theater to be responsible, and on time, I guess. You're not really down to go to Olive Garden in Times Square and the pizza everywhere you turn just isn't calling your name. Enter, Mitr Thai. Delicious, sit down, but quick service thai restaurant with food that's flavorful authentic and a stone's throw away from broadway. You're welcome.

LA
GIRL AND THE GOAT

I am never disappointed at Girl and the Goat! With a fully separate vegan & gluten-free menu, with generally tons of veggie forward options regardless, there is something for everyone, and everything is fresh, delicious, flavorful and uniquely paired together. Don't miss the carrot hummus with naan!

BAVEL

As you already might know, I live and breathe for hummus. Everyday presents a new opportunity for hummus, and I really seize them all (with pita….of course). Bavel is home to some of the smoothest hummus I have ever had, and their breads are absolutely divine. A great special occasion spot, or where to go when you need some good Mediterranean food in Los Angeles.

JON & VINNY'S

It took me probably way too long to make it to Jon & Vinny's, especially knowing that it's a true LA staple. The pizza was one of the best I've had in awhile, with a thin and crispy crust and the perfect amount of sauce (the amount that doesn't make the bottom get soggy — hate that energy for us). Definitely book a table in advance if you can!

Caldo Verde (in the DTLA Proper Hotel)

I stayed in the Downtown LA Proper during a literal rainstorm in LA, so I ended up going to Caldo Verde more times than I anticipated I would, and I do not regret a second of it. This Portuguese meets California inspired menu was absolutely incredible - the flavors really popped, and every dish I ordered was unique and memorable. Do not, and I repeat, do NOT leave without ordering the fries, they make even good shoestrings look bad, the avocado toast for breakfast with the piri piri sauce, and the chopped salad.

Juno the Bakery

Those cardamom bun photos you've been seeing in every “must get” guide to Copenhagen? Yeah…this is where you get it. Now, let me be clear - you will probably find this cardamom bun at many different cafés, coffee shops, and bakeries - but Juno is the spot. Started by a former Noma pastry chef, you'll more than likely encounter a line but it is so, so worth. You must order the cardamom buns, croissants, tebirkes (poppy seed pastries), and don't forget to pick up a loaf of rye bread for the next day.

Atelier September

AS is simply stunning. And that's the thing - it's simple and stunning — the food is perfectly cooked, plated, and served - with the most museum worthy avocado toast you'd ever see, and thick slices of sourdough served with a mound of whipped butter. The gorgeous, minimal, sunlit interiors, make Atelier September of the most inviting spots I've ever visited and a must visit for breakfast or an afternoon bite / caffeine hit.

POPL

POPL was one of my favorite meals in CPH! A concept started originally during the pandemic at Noma as a pop-up burger and wine bar, the burgers now have their very own home at POPL. There are vegetarian options and meat options so you'll find something for everyone you're dining with - I had the lion's mane sandwich which was the most unique and tasty burger I've literally ever had. Be sure not to miss the starters, they are all absolute flavor explosions and some of my favorite items I ate during my entire trip (the best leeks of my life)!!

I had such a great experience at Sanchez. The family of restaurants and taquerias dot Copenhagen, and I especially loved dining at Restaurant Sanchez as both the energy of the restaurant and food were incredible. The contemporary Mexican flavors really shine and are a unique addition to the foodscape in CPH - I also loved learning about how all of the corn used in both the taquerias and restaurants is imported from Mexico!

Lille Bakery

I think Lille healed me. Lol, but seriously. I sat in that bakery for literally HOURS, writing in my journal and eating a cinnamon roll bun situation and coffee. Solo travel really brings it all out of you but hey, can't really complain about any part of that situation. The food is unreal (definitely don't miss the focaccia) and it's located out of the action in Refshaleøen, where I'd suggest you make a trip to spend a morning or afternoon. It's one of the most beautiful bakeries I've ever been to. After Lille, you can walk by Noma and check out the garden (if you don't have a reservation)!

Slurp ramen joint

Sometimes, on a cold day, all that sounds perfect is a piping hot, spicy bowl of ramen. Slurp delivered - especially on the coldest day I was in Copenhagen. The noodles are handmade, the ingredients are seasonal, and it was truly phenomenal. Expect to wait for a seat, as Slurp seats on a first come first serve basis and does not take reservations. Worth it!

Rambutan

This was my favorite meal of the year. There was not a SINGLE dish that missed, and even though it's difficult to get a table, it is 100% worth it. Rambutan is located in borough market, and they describe their menu as “Sri Lankan diaspora cooking.” The roti was completely out of this world - extremely flaky, buttery, and I'm certain you will need minimum two per person. The menu changes here but I can't imagine having one mediocre dish here - everything was stellar.

One of the most popular and revered spots in London, Dishoom pays homage to the food of Bombay and the Irani cafés that thrived in the 1960s. You will, and I promise you this, always find a line at Dishoom and you can't make a reservation unless you're booking for a larger party, so plan ahead! The food is absolutely delicious, with a completely separate vegan menu if you're into that. For excellent sourdough pizza, I loved to visit Franco Manca. It is a no frills pizza spot with locations throughout the city. Any place with options for everyone is a win in my book. Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine highlighting seasonal produce of the Pacific Northwest. The spot is vibey and nearly always busy so if you don't have a reservation, I'd suggest walking in at 5pm. Absolutely incredible plant-based ice cream, maybe some of the best I've ever had. Kate's is such an amazing spot for folks with dietary preferences and without.
